On Wednesday, June 15, 2011, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Elder Financial Protection Network (EFPN) and WesPay will present Confronting Financial Elder Abuse: Tools and Solutions for Financial Institutions. Hosted by the FDIC, this 90-minute management level training is designed for employees of financial institutions. The training will provide an update on the growing crime of financial elder abuse and examine the role of the financial service professional in protecting elder account holders and clients from financial abuse and exploitation. The session will cover the following topics:

  • Overview and current perspectives and trends
  • Red flags and intervention strategies
  • Update on reporting procedures and resources
  • Update on current and pending legislation
  • Prevention and public awareness programs

Call to Action brought together hundreds of professionals representing financial institutions, law enforcement, social services, elder justice advocates and the legal community to share best practices and express our collective determination to prevent elder financial abuse.
Guest Speaker, Mr. Mickey Rooney captivated the audience with his emotional words, urging all present to continue the fight against elder abuse. He read the Proclamation with deep conviction in his voice and was the first to sign it, leading the charge for over 400 people to add their signatures.

~ We the citizens of the United States of America respectfully request that our President and Congress enact legislation that would authorize the United States Postmaster General to issue an Elder Abuse semipostal stamp; and,
~ We call upon Congress to fund the Elder Justice Act of 2010.
~ The citizens of the United States of America respectfully urge the President to issue a proclamation recognizing June 15, 2011 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and consider lighting the White House purple on this date.
